Program Overview
Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for real-world grooming careers through hands-on experience and practical education. We cover: - Everyday pet grooming - Breed-specific grooming techniques - How to determine the most flattering haircut for mixed-breed pets - Cat grooming (optional for students) - An introduction to creative grooming – including coat coloring and specialty styles In the beginning stages, new students will focus primarily on the body and feet of the pets. This allows them to build essential scissor control, become familiar with handling their tools, and gain confidence using grooming equipment safely and effectively. It's common for an advanced student to review your work and complete the dog's head, offering guidance and demonstrating finishing techniques. Then the instructor will check and approve all work to ensure consistency, learning, and safety. Students who demonstrate strong control and understanding early on may advance more quickly into head work and detailed hand-scissoring tasks. Progress is based on skill, attitude, and instructor approval. In addition to hands-on practice, students will complete minor testing throughout the program. These informal assessments help reinforce understanding of grooming tools, coat types, breed identification, and basic grooming theory. All instruction takes place in a real, functioning grooming salon to simulate real-world grooming scenarios and build practical, professional skills. Students are allowed to groom their own pets once they have demonstrated they can perform the grooming primarily on their own. This must be done on a Tuesday or Wednesday only. If the school is especially busy on a given day, the student may be asked to bring their pet back the next day to complete the grooming.

Safety, Emergencies & Procedures
Safety is our top priority. Absolutely any injury to a pet, no matter how big or small, must be reported to your instructor immediately. Do not attempt to treat the injury yourself. This applies specifically to any injuries involving the dogs in your care. You are also required to report any personal injuries you experience during class so that proper action and documentation can be taken. About half of your grooming success depends on how well you handle animals. Be especially cautious with senior dogs and puppies. Patience, control, and compassion are essential. Equipment must be sanitized after every dog. Dirty equipment can spread skin conditions and fungus. If you drop your tools, especially blades, notify your instructor so they can inspect them for safety. The class leaves together each day. If you finish early, assist where needed. We clean daily, and

"I've had the dream of becoming a dog groomer and opening my own business for years. Unleashed was the first and only option that was recommended to me by my personal groomers. I contacted Jackie and looked no further. From the very first step I took in this journey, I have been extremely fulfilled. The education and mentorship I received from Jackie herself has been second to none. Jackie has 20 years of experience in pet grooming along with business management and it shows. My eagerness to learn all aspects of this business in just 14 short weeks helped me excel during my time spent in school. I'm set to open my new business just months after having graduated from Unleashed Pet Grooming School. All while making lifelong friends and connections along the way, I could not have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend entrusting Jackie with your precious pets' needs because she cares more than the next person."
